Quad bikes are typically associated with riding around woodland on the weekends or they are often seen on farms. A rugged, all-terrain vehicle that you never bought for taking on the public highway, it might be tempting to put any need for offroad quad insurance well to the back of your mind.
Overlooking the need for insuring your quad bike, however, might prove a costly oversight. Here are some of the reasons why:
- you might not intend to do much riding along the public highway, but you still need to get bike to those offroad locations you’re after. However short the journey, if the bike’s on the road, the law requires you to hold a minimum of third party insurance. Failure to do so, might land you with an expensive fine – or worse:
- whether it’s on- or off-road, your quad bike is likely to be an expensive piece of machinery that is going to cost a lot to repair or replace if something goes wrong. Offroad quad insurance is capable of helping you save on expenses in the event of a fire or if your bike was stolen;
- even when you’re careful enough to ensure that the quad bike is transported by trailer whenever you travel with it to events or trials, there are times when it remains vulnerable and for which adequate insurance when the machine is in transit is worth considering;
- if you’re using the bike as a way of getting around the farm or elsewhere, you might already have considered setting off its costs as a business expense. But if it does have this business use, then this is something that you also need to advise the vehicle’s insurers about;
- if you employ people who are also likely to be riding the quad – whether on- or off-road – you may be held liable as their employer for any injuries they sustain or damage they cause. Their use of the machine is likely to be an important feature of any employer’s insurance which you might in any event be required by law to hold;
- if you are looking for exclusively offroad quad insurance, it is still worth remembering the risk of third party claims from other people and members of the public you might encounter. injuries they might suffer as a result of your riding the machine, or damage to their property, might render you liable and facing hefty claims in compensation.
